Spiced Apple & Halva Crumble
INGREDIENTS
Apple Filling
1 kg green apples, peeled and chopped into small pieces
50 g dried figs, finely chopped
80 g walnuts or pistachios, roughly chopped
2 tablespoons plain flour
20 g brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Crumble Topping
200 g halva, crumbled
100 g rolled oats
170 g plain flour
10 g brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
150 g unsalted butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon sea salt flakes
METHOD
Preheat the oven to 170°C
Combine the apples, figs, and chopped nuts in a baking dish. Sprinkle the mixture with flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon, and toss until the fruit is evenly coated. Spread the mixture in a single, even layer.
Combine the crumbled halva, oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, melted butter, and sea salt flakes in a mixing bowl. Stir until the mixture forms clumps.
Sprinkle the crumble topping over the apple mixture in the baking dish, covering it evenly. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and crisp.
Allow the crumble to cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with fresh cream, custard, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra touch of indulgence.
